#BIGANG @BigAng The Way We Remember Her: @XXL by @ScottChurch @berngiacomazzo

While we’re happy to hear the news that Big Ang is still alive, despite initial reports to the contrary, we’re still sad and gutted over the news that she is currently in the fight for her life against cancer.

In light of all of the negative reports, then, we — Scott Church, Bernadette Giacomazzo, & the rest of our team — would like to share with you this video, showing Angela “Big Ang” Raiola the way we remember — and love — her.

She’s a no-nonsense, fearless lady who’s seen more than her fair share of drama…but she’s also a dear friend, a loving mother, and an even more loving grandmother.

Ang, we love you, and we’re always here for you. Please keep fighting this!

With love always,
Scott Church, Bernadette Giacomazzo, & the team

“Swimming with Sharks” book re-released, $1 from each sale to go to @RyanFoundation !

Entertainment industry powerhouses Bernadette Giacomazzo and MJ Deskovic — who first came to prominence a decade ago when they dropped the first edition of the seminal Swimming with Sharks: A Real-World, How-To Guide to Success (and Failure) in the Business of Music — have updated, and re-released, the book, which is now available in print and digital formats.

The duo have pledged $1 of each net sale from their book to go to the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing entertainment and educational opportunities for children in hospitals across the country. Both women are ongoing supporters of the Foundation, and are committed to the entertainment industry’s spirit of “giving back” to those less fortunate.

Swimming with Sharks: A Real World, How To Guide to Success (and Failure) in the Business of Music (in the 21st Century) has been updated & re-released, but still retains all its original wit & wisdom. What began as a conversation on MySpace earned countless indie book accolades & awards, launched the successful mainstream careers of its two authors, and taught countless musicians about the in’s and out’s of the shark-infested business of music.

“When MJ and I first wrote Swimming with Sharks ten years ago, all we wanted to do was educate the artists we were working with,” said Giacomazzo. “We never, in a million years, dreamed that the book would open up a world of opportunities for us in the entertainment industry. But once it did, we felt that the only right thing to do was to give back to those less fortunate…our debt of gratitude, in one way, but our pleasure and our honor in another.”

“The Ryan Seacrest Foundation is a perfect combination of everything Bernadette and I stand for,” added Deskovic. “We believe in the spirit of charity, and we believe that both educational and entertainment opportunities should be made available to everyone…especially children, and most especially children in hospitals. We’re pleased to support the Foundation every way we know how, and we’re especially pleased to impart our hard-earned wisdom to those who need it in the form of this updated version of our book.”

The new edition of the book now features sound advice for music industry professionals, exclusive stories about your favorite celebrities, and insightful updates about the original cast of characters from the first edition of the book.

But in between the tales of the tape about celebrities from Kanye West (very nice) to Nick Lachey (not so much), and the hilarious quips from other industry insiders, is a book that’s chock full of essential tips that every musician & aspiring industry professional — regardless of genre — can take to heart and apply to his/her successful entertainment industry career…without getting eaten by the industry’s sharks.

Here are some of the reviews from the first edition of the book:

• “They don’t pull any punches…they write well with a keen eye on how the music business has changed beyond recognition.” – Metal 4 Life (UK)

• “A no-nonsense, tough-love book about the music industry.” –

• “What a fantastic book! Highest respect to all those involved.” – Kelli Wright, Kelli Wright Publicity (Australia)

• “Very solid advice, and great information. A must-read for any musician.” – Belinda Subraman, Belinda Subraman Presents (USA)

• “Great book! Funny as hell.” – Stephen Key, CEO of Hot Picks

• “We will blab about it everywhere we go!” — Lzzy, Lead Singer of Halestorm (Atlantic Records)

• “The distinctive voices of Bernadette Giacomazzo and MJ Deskovic lend many great pointers that will give a great jump start to the musician in this wonderful book.” — The Feminist Review

• “Jam-packed with valuable information and yet remains an easy and amusing read.” — Babble and Beat Magazine

iconic32, the innovative studio and lifestyle company, in partnership with John Jay College of Criminal Justice (John Jay) and the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) – is excited to announce its first annual “Pop Culture Summit,” which will take place on Saturday, October 3rd in New York City on campus at John Jay College, located at 524 W. 59th Street.

The iconic32 Pop Culture Summit is a new and unique fundraising platform that will raise awareness and financial resources for various causes, while providing the space for conscious creatives across various pop culture disciplines (technology, fashion, film, music, art and sports) to come together to share knowledge and co-create alongside some of the most renowned influencers, celebrities and YouTubers/Viners/digital influencers – in order to explore the role of pop culture as a change agent for social good.

The Pop Culture Summit’s core audiences are Millennials and Gen Zers, including anyone that wants to get more deeply embedded and knowledgeable about these youth audiences. The Summit will host approximately 350 attendees and it will also be live streamed.

Award-winning actor, humanitarian and co-founder of iconic32 Malik Yoba will serve as the master of ceremonies – and will guide attendees through a one-day creative, spiritual and inspirational journey.

The day will consist of:
• Morning yoga and meditation session powered by KIND Snacks
• Film screenings (Time is Illmatic, Rubble Kings)
• Speakers & panels (POP talks)
• Performances (music, dance, theatre)
• Co-creation Workshops (art, music, digital /film, photography, fashion)
• A marketplace with several custom-made and customizable products
• Final performances: attendees present ideas & content developed during co-creation workshops

iconic32 co-founder Sergio Morales said, “The Pop Culture Summit is one of the ways that our company is bringing our value proposition to life, which is to use pop culture to spark social good. Pop culture is an incredibly power medium and is deeply embedded into many facets of our everyday lives.

Unfortunately, pop culture is oftentimes used and associated with negative issues, messages and images, which become front and center for our younger generations and society at large. We are swinging the pendulum by leveraging pop culture as a change agent for social good, and as a way to create and unite communities of socially-conscious creatives, particularly our younger generations, to demonstrate that pop culture can and should be both cool AND good. The Pop Culture Summit will also serve as incubator to launch the process of product ideas and content, and we will be the springboard for an evergreen platform for people from all walks of life to participate and contribute to the evolution of these ideas into actual product development and distribution.”

“With a student body committed to contributing to the public good as fierce advocates for justice, John Jay College is a fitting partner for the first Pop Culture Summit. We are excited to join with iconic32 to explore the ways pop culture can serve as an agent for change,” said Lynette Cook-Francis, Vice President for Student Affairs at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

“DYCD is proud to partner with iconic32 for this groundbreaking summit,” said Department of Youth and Community Development Commissioner Bill Chong. “Pop culture has a tremendous impact on the life decisions of our young people, and by connecting them with influencers and experts in the creative fields of tech, fashion, film, music, art and sports, we inspire our youth to consider potential career paths and discover new ways to bring about social change.”
